On February 21, 2025, HIRAKU-Global Annual Conference FY2024 was held online via Zoom, with 72 participants from across the country.
The conference began with the Opening Remarls by Hitoshi Matsuki, Executive Director and Vice President for Research of Tokushima University and a menber of the HIRAKU-Global Operating Council, followed by an overview of the HIRAKU-Global program presented by Misako Aida, Professor (Special Designation) at Âé¶¹AV.
Next, six of the 3rd corhort of HIRAKU-Global Researchers (HGRs), who were selected by the Program in FY2022 and who are in their 3rd year of development, outlined how they will continue making further strides towards becoming world-class researchers by presenting upon their current research and future plans.
The keynote lecture was delivered by Associate Professor from the National Institute of Informatics, titled "Open Science, the magic word¡ªThe changing nature of the academic sphere." Professor Funamori emphasized the importance of open science in enhancing research transparency and reproducibility. She also discussed the significance of data management plans (DMPs) and the necessity of publishing research data. Additionally, she explained the differences between open access (OA) and open science (OS), highlighting the need to protect personal information and intellectual property when publishing research data.
The lecture was well-received by many participants, and the Q&A session saw lively discussions. Participants gained a deeper understanding of the specific steps needed to implement open science.
Finally, the conference concluded with closing remarks by Setsuko Tajima, HIRAKU-Global Consortium Mentor and Professor Emeritus of Osaka University, who delivered an encouraging message to the HIRAKU-Global researchers and expressed gratitude to the audience.
