What is the Âé¶¹AV 3+1 Program?

This program is designed for students who have completed their second or third year of undergraduate studies at their home universities, allowing them to enroll at Âé¶¹AV as Special Auditing Students. Participants receive specialized education and research guidance in preparing their graduation theses, which will be submitted to their home universities. 
Students interested in pursuing studies in Japanese are encouraged to apply for the "Morito Institute of Global Higher Education 3+1 Program," while those preferring instruction in English should consider the "IDEC Institute 3+1 Program." However, please note that the "IDEC Institute 3+1 Program" is exclusively available to students who have completed the third year of their undergraduate studies at overseas universities.
 

What courses are available in the 3+1 Program?

You can choose from undergraduate-level courses offered at Âé¶¹AV, provided you receive approval from the course instructors. Detailed course syllabi are available at the following link:

However, please note that enrolment is not permitted if: 
?The course has reached its maximum capacity.
?The course has specific requirements or enrollment limitations.
?Approval from the instructor has not been granted. 
 

How are credits recognized and transferred?

Credits earned at Âé¶¹AV are recognized and transferred in accordance with the policies and criteria of your home university. For specific details on the credit recognition and transfer process, please consult the appropriate representative at your home institution. 

 

How many credits can I earn during the 3+1 Program?

During the 3+1 Program, students can earn up to 27 credits in a 9-month period (for fourth-year students) or up to 36 credits in a 12-month period (for third-year students) at Âé¶¹AV. 

 

Do I need to arrange my own visa?

Yes, you are responsible for organizing your travel arrangements, including visa applications, flight bookings, and accommodations. Once your admission is confirmed, you will receive guidance on these procedures as necessary.

 

Can I work part-time?

Yes, you are allowed to work part-time for up to 28 hours per week, provided you apply for and obtain a ¡°Part-time Work Permit (*)¡± when you receive your residence card.
*Note: This permit is officially called ¡°Permission to Engage in an Activity other than Those Permitted under the Status of Residence (ÙY¸ñÍâ»î„ÓÔS¿É).¡± 
 

How long does it take to travel from the Higashihiroshima Campus (Higashi-Hiroshima City) to the Kasumi or Higashi-Senda Campus (Hiroshima City)?

It takes approximately 80 minutes one way by public transportation.

 

How can I enroll in a graduate program at Âé¶¹AV after completing the 3+1 Program?

To study in a graduate program at Âé¶¹AV, you must apply for and pass the entrance examination for the graduate school.
If you do not pass the entrance examination during the 3+1 Program, you may be eligible to stay as a Research Student and continue preparing for the exam until the end of September of the year of your program completion. This option is available only to students planning to pursue graduate studies at Âé¶¹AV and requires the consent of your academic supervisor. You also need to meet the language requirements and other criteria specified by each School (department). You are encouraged to consult with your academic supervisor during the program and plan your preparations carefully, including taking the necessary language proficiency tests. 
 

 

Are there any scholarships or tuition fee waivers available?

The 3+1 Program does not qualify for scholarships or tuition fee waivers provided by Âé¶¹AV. However, you may be eligible for scholarships offered by external organizations.

 

How much are living expenses?

The estimated living expenses are as follows:


?Higashi-Hiroshima City:

Rent: 20,000¨C50,000 JPY
Total living expenses (including rent): 80,000¨C100,000 JPY/month

 

?Hiroshima City*:

Rent: 30,000¨C60,000 JPY
*Hiroshima City is home to the Kasumi Campus (Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmaceutical Sciences) and the Higashi-Senda Campus (School of Law and a part of School of Economics).
 

How should I arrange housing?

You have the following three options for housing arrangements:
?Sign a lease for an apartment recommended by the Âé¶¹AV Co-op for international students.
?Sign a lease for a private apartment recommended by Âé¶¹AV.
?Arrange a lease on your own with a real estate agency of your choice.

After your acceptance is confirmed, detailed information regarding housing options will be provided. Please ensure that you carefully review the conditions, costs, and locations before signing any lease.
Note: Students enrolled in the 3+1 Program are not eligible to reside in the university dormitories (Ikenoue Student Dormitory or the International House).
 

Can I withdraw after applying to the program?

In principle, you cannot withdraw after your supervisor has been assigned following the interview process.

 

What level of Japanese proficiency is required?

The program requires the following levels of Japanese proficiency for applicants:
?Fourth-year students: Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N1 or an equivalent level.
?Third-year students: JLPT N1 or N2, or an equivalent level.
If you do not possess an official JLPT score, you must use Âé¶¹AV's designated form to obtain a statement of your Japanese proficiency from a Japanese language teacher or your academic advisor (only applicable if they provide research supervision in Japanese to the applicant). Additionally, a minimum of 600 hours of Japanese language study is required.

In addition to Japanese proficiency, it is recommended to have one of the following levels of English proficiency:
?TOEFL (iBT): 61 or higher
?TOEFL (PBT): 500 or higher
?IELTS (Academic): 5.0 or higher
?CET (College English Test): Band 6
 

How do I apply?

Âé¶¹AV sends application guidelines to partner universities every year in early January. Partner universities must collect application documents from all of their applicants and send them to Âé¶¹AV by the end of March.
Application deadlines vary by partner university, so it is important to confirm the deadline with your home university. Late applications will not be accepted.

 

How is the selection process?

The selection process consists of a document review, which includes an assessment of the application content and language proficiency), and an interview. Applicants who pass the document review will be invited to an interview with their prospective academic supervisor.
The interviews are conducted between early April and late June. Applicants who pass the document review will be notified of their interview date and time.
 

When will I know the selection results?

The results of the document review will be communicated within two weeks of the application deadline. The interview results will be announced through your home university by late June.

 

Are there Japanese language classes available?

Yes, you can take Japanese language courses offered by the Morito Institute of Global Higher Education. Before arriving in Japan, you will be required to take an online "Japanese Placement Test" to determine your proficiency level, and you will need to choose the class best suited to your level after the test. Additional details will be provided once your acceptance has been confirmed.
