1st Âé¶¹AV Vietnamese Students' Japanese Essay Contest Award Ceremony

On October 5, 2024, Âé¶¹AV held the "1st Âé¶¹AV Vietnamese Students' Japanese Essay Contest" award ceremony at the University of Languages and International Studies (ULIS), Vietnam National University ¨C Hanoi (VNU).

This event is a new initiative launched in the 2024 academic year to promote and expand Japanese language education overseas. The contest in Vietnam was the first of its kind, attracting 79 applicants from 21 universities across the country. After a rigorous selection process, five outstanding students and their three supervising instructors were invited to the award ceremony.

The ceremony was held in grand style with approximately 120 attendees, including the presence of H.E. Naoki Ito, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Representing Âé¶¹AV were President Mitsuo Ochi, Executive Vice President for Global Initiatives Shinji Kaneko, and Vice President for International Exchange/Japanese Language Education Kazuhiko Koike. Many distinguished guests from Japanese and Vietnamese companies, as well as the Japan Foundation, also attended.

In his opening remarks, President Ochi highlighted the strategic importance of Hanoi for Âé¶¹AV's international initiatives. He explained that the contest was launched with the hope of contributing to the development of Japanese language education in Vietnam by leveraging the university¡¯s expertise in this field, which is highly regarded in Japan. He expressed his aspiration that "this contest will become a goal for those engaged in Japanese language education in Vietnam and, ultimately, contribute to the development of Japan-Vietnam relations."

Ambassador Ito expressed his appreciation for the participants, saying, "I am very grateful that you have taken an interest in Japan and worked hard to refine your Japanese language skills." He further emphasized the importance of high Japanese language proficiency for those aspiring to work at Japanese companies or study in Japan. He concluded by expressing his hope that the contest would encourage more people to take an interest in Japanese and lead to an increase in highly proficient Japanese speakers in Vietnam.

In this competition, the top prize was designated as the "Japanese Ambassador's Award," and Ambassador Ito personally presented the certificate and supplementary prize to the recipient, Ms. La Thi Khanh Ly from Hanoi University.

Following this, certificates and supplementary prizes were awarded to four recipients of the Excellence Award, including the Âé¶¹AV President¡¯s Award. Additionally, the three faculty members who guided the top prize and excellence award winners were honored with the "Outstanding Instructor Award," receiving certificates and plaques.

After the award ceremony, the winners delivered commemorative speeches, expressing sentiments such as, "There were many challenges while studying Japanese, but this award has motivated me to continue my studies," and "As an instructor, I am honored to receive such an award and will continue striving to provide better guidance."

Furthermore, this competition was supported by 12 companies and organizations as sponsors.
