Writing Advisors (2024每)

In December 2023, HU was selected to be one of the Japanese institutions to receive support from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports Science and Technology (MEXT) as part of the Program for Forming Japan*s Peak Research Universities (J-PEAKS). Following this success, HU Writing Center has upgraded the Writing Advisor Fellowship Program to a more secure ※Writing Advisor§ position. The Writing Advisors mainly provide consultations to HU graduate students and faculty members on research writing in English.

Julie TannerㄗWriting Advisor, October 2024 - ㄘ

Julie is an editor, researcher, and writer who gained her PhD in English from Queen Mary, University of London, where she also taught modules on literary topics and research-based writing. She believes that compelling prose is an essential component in the successful dissemination of research, so she encourages academic researchers of all disciplines to be reflexive and think of themselves as writers in order to hone their arguments, reach their audiences, and achieve their goals. Julie can collaborate with researchers to navigate the genres of academic writing (abstracts, articles, chapters, presentations) and address questions of argument, structure, and style.

Yuhong ZhuㄗWriting Advisor, August 2023 - ㄘ

Yuhong is a linguist focusing on phonology and phonetics He received his Ph D in Linguistics from The Ohio State University in 2023 During his time in graduate school, Yuhong was the instructor of "Analyzing the Sounds of Language", a course that covers English phonetics, statistics and scientific writing He has also served as a reviewer for multiple linguistic journals and conferences Yuhong believes that a primary goal of academic writing is to engage in relevant conversations and debates in the field, and is eager to help other researchers contribute to their respective disciplines.

Adele Pitkeathly (Senior Writing Advisor, March 2024 - December 2024)

Adele Pitkeathly was Director of Studies at UNSW Institute of Languages, with responsibility for an international student group of up to 2,000 and 150 English language English teaching staff in Academic and Professional English programs. She has been involved in designing and providing specialised educational programs for staff and students of partner universities and government agencies with a goal of increasing internationalization. She has a background as a TESOL Teacher Trainer, IELTS examiner and International Student Advisor as well as over 15 years teaching and coordinating English language courses.
